Jury Finds Man Guilty For Role In Shooting That Injured 5 Outside Montgomery County Restaurant

A man was found guilty of assault and weapons offenses for his role in a shooting outside a Montgomery County restaurant that left five people injured last year.

Michael Boyd Jr., 40, of Olney, was found guilty by jury of two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Director of Public Affairs Lauren DeMarco announced Friday, April 5.

The charges stem from an incident outside Sole D’Italia restaurant on the 14300 block of Layhill Road in the Norbeck-Layhill neighborhood at approximately 12:15 a.m. on July 13, 2023.

A fight broke out behind the restaurant, during which Boyd arrived on scene wielding a firearm and pointing it at multiple individuals. 

Four people were shot, Boyd included. A fifth victim was injured by bullet fragments.

The jury found Boyd intended to cause fear of physical bodily harm and used a firearm to do so.

Boyd faces a maximum of 90 years in prison and is scheduled for sentencing on June 20, 2024.
